Sugarland Information

Sugar Land is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, not only in terms of population, but also in terms of job growth. Jobs have increased almost fifty-percent this decade. Originally founded as a sugar plantation, the city is the third largest in population and second largest in economic activities in the Houston area. It has been ranked third on the list of “Best Cities to Live in the United States.”

Sugar Land is home to the headquarters of Imperial Sugar, and the company's Imperial Sugar crown logo can be seen in the city seal and logo. The city is also the headquarters for Minute Maid. In addition, Sugar Land has a large number of international energy, software, engineering, and product firms.

Sugar Land is diversifying its economy and some of the major employers in the city now include Fort Bend ISD, Fluor Corporation, Lamar CISD, Schlumberger Technology Corporation and Fort Bend County. In addition to government many noted companies such as Texas Instruments, UPS, and Frito Lay provide employment to the local population.
